  1. Awareness
  2. Adaptability
  3. Skills

  5. Positive Mental Attitude

At  #YPOForum and #EOForum retreats hosted around the world, we embrace the 5 core skills required of leaders through experiential learning and travel adventures that support the development CEO’s as well as the strength and connection of the Forum.

In this post, a look at two essential skills required of today’s leaders:

Two Critical Survival Skills for YPO and EO Leaders:

Awareness and Creative Problem Solving.

Awareness:  In his books, “How to Think Like Leonardo Da Vinci” and “Da Vinci decoded” Author, Michael Gelb document’s Da Vinci’s life and genius.  Da Vinci constantly focused his observations on minute details in order to gain a greater perspective.  Some 500 years ago in Tuscany, Leonardo remarked that the average person “looks without seeing, listens without hearing, touches without feeling, eats without tasting, moves without physical awareness, inhales without awareness of odor or fragrance and talks without thinking”  This statement is perhaps never truer than it is today with technology further amplifying lack of awareness of self, others and our environment.

The key to awareness is not looking at everything at once where things tend to blur together, rather breaking down your observations into focus areas of your business and life.

For example in examining customer experience, focus on one aspect of service at a time such as customer wait time.  How do you take the pain out of wait time?  It begins by actually experiencing and focusing on that wait time and looking for subtle ways that your customer wait time can be improved.  The fact is we hate to wait and if you can entertain or delight us in customer wait time, you have improved the customer experience.  Focused awareness helps today’s leaders look in and out for continual improvements.

Creative Problem Solving (CPS)

CPS Model

The Creative Problem Solving Process gives today’s YPO and EO leaders a tool and formula for solving problems both big and small.  CPS separates divergent and convergent thinking for creating longer lists and better choices!  It also democratizes problem-solving and beats solo genius every time, by engaging diverse points of view and separating ideation from solution analysis and implementation.

At our upcoming EO Forum this month, individual forum members will bring either a personal or business challenge to tap into the forum’s best thinking through CPS! Forum members will arrive with a challenge and leave with a blueprint developed through the forum’s brain trust and application of CPS.
